Liberty London fabrics

An exclusive collection from Mazzoni Casa

The history of Liberty Fabrics began with Arthur Lasenby, son of a cloth merchant from Buckinghamshire, who began his career in London in the shawl and cloak shopFarmer & Rogers.

In 1875 he founded his boutique in Regent Street, with the aim of innovating the textile market of the time. Success came in a short time, thanks to the selection of unique fabrics, often influenced by the decorative arts and typical oriental aesthetics. Over time, Arthur Lasenby began his own production of printed fabrics. Among the designers who signed the best-known patterns was also William Morris, one of the main founders of the Arts and Crafts movement, considered one of the greatest designers of all time.

Today Liberty Fabrics manages more than 45,000 original designs, ranging from the end of the 19th century to today.

Liberty fabrics have always been characterized by prints rich in details, inspired by nature and the arts, vibrant colors and complex designs that give the final product prestige and charm.

The most used fabric for Liberty prints is a soft to the touch but very resistant cotton, called Tana Lawn, discovered by Sir Arthur on the shores of Lake Tana, in Ethiopia. A one-of-a-kind fabric. Silky soft, light and exquisite, perfect for clothing. Resistant like cotton, fresh and breathable like linen, it can be washed in the washing machine and its colors always remain perfect.

The process by which the fabric is embellished with prints, hand-drawn by the internal team, is equally important. Today Tana Lawn cotton is printed in Italy, in a factory owned by Liberty Fabrics, near Lake Como.
